B-Line Buses Trial World-Leading Safety Tech

Sydney’s double-decker bus fleet, the B-Line will fit all 38 buses with Mobileye, AI-powered collision avoidance technology. The bus service transports commuters between Sydney’s Northern Beaches and the city 7 days a week. The safety trial is part of the NSW government’s plan to reduce the road toll, especially the impact from heavy vehicles.

Mobileye was chosen for its cutting edge computer vision technology. The artificial intelligence constantly monitors the road, detecting pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and all types of vehicles. When the system detects the risk of a collision, it will send an immediate alert to the driver including:

  • – Forward collisions
  • – Laneway departures
  • – Headway monitoring
  • – Pedestrian and cyclists collisions
  • – Speed limit alerts

Mobileye’s telematics capabilities allow the system to be connected to most fleet management systems, like FleetHQ. Driver behaviour data can be viewed via the web for reporting and analysis. Incidents recorded from the trial could also be used by Transport for NSW to determine wider road and infrastructure improvements.
