Just Like Freckles, No Two Blind Spots Are The Same

Hanson, the building and construction materials company combined forces with the National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP). The reason? Promoting heavy vehicle blind spot awareness for all road users.

On average, about 20% of all road deaths involve a heavy vehicle. In a recent study, only 4% of respondents were able to identify how many blind spots heavy vehicles like trucks have. The disconnect between the rate of road fatalities and knowledge is a key reason for Hansons and NRSPP’s collaboration.

The research identified that although trucks have 4 main blind spots, the size and location of these different depending on the vehicle. From B-Doubles to cement rollers, each type of truck in the Hanson fleet was photographed using drones to identify the specific blind and low visibility areas. These were then documented and provided to drivers for a simple but informative way to spread awareness.

For fleets looking to mitigate collisions, Spotto, the blind spot monitoring system may be the answer. The advanced microwave radar technology has been specifically designed for trucks. The intelligent radar continuously monitors blind areas alongside, and in front of a truck. Spotto helps prevent collisions whether you are changing lanes on highways, or turning at intersections in urban areas.
